The rationale for composing for many composers of the Baroque era was to honor God. The baroque was believed to lack the reason and discipline that came to be associated with neoclassicism and the era of the Enlightenment. In English literature, the metaphysical poets represent a closely related movement; their poetry likewise sought unusual metaphors, which they then examined in often extensive detail. The Baroque Era, an era of evolution as a result of the Renaissance, roamed around the western society around the late 16th century and the early 18th century. During the period composers and performers used more elaborate musical ornamentation; made changes in musical notation, and developed new instrumental playing techniques. One of several early baroque composers who contributed significantly to the marriage of chorale and counterpoint was DIETRICH BUXTEHUDE. The head is made slightly longer by separating the two parts a bit, and then the pitch of the flute is lowered somewhat (but unevenly). With this freedom, Baroque composers could focus more on improvisation and to ensemble the solo performances. One piece that springs to mind in this category is Karl Jenkin's Palladio (also known as "Diamond Music" due to its past prominence in TV ads for a certain jewelery company) which does a wonderful job of evoking the feeling of Vivaldi.
